Knee disorders

“My knees hurt”: a common problem

Underlying the foot and in constant mechanical interrelation, the knee joint is sometimes damaged due to plantar support disorders. Whatever activity you practice, knee injuries are common, including tendonitis, bursitis, iliotibial band syndrome, and even meniscus tears. Whether resulting from a sports accident, muscle strain, or mechanical factors, knee pain is common in the general population.

Knee disorders

The knee disorders most frequently seen in podiatry practices are:

Patellar tendinitis

Patellar tendinitis is an inflammation of the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap (patella) to the tibia, causing pain in front of and below the kneecap.

Patellofemoral syndrome

Patellofemoral syndrome is pain in the kneecap area, often caused by misalignment or overuse.

Iliotibial band syndrome and iliotibial band syndrome

Iliotibial band syndrome and iliotibial band syndrome are irritation of the popliteal muscle tendon or inflammation of the iliotibial band, causing pain on the outer side of the knee (very common in runners).

Knee bursitis

Knee bursitis is inflammation of one or more serous bursae around the knee, causing pain and swelling.

Osgood-Schlatter disease

A growth disorder that generally occurs between the ages of 12 and 15, Osgood-Schlatter disease is an inflammation of the growth plate of the tibial tuberosity, the area of the tibia where the patellar tendon attaches. It occurs mainly in young athletes and is linked to overuse of the limb (repeated microtrauma).
