    Medical pedicure treatment

Medical pedicure involves comprehensive foot care: from the heels to the tips of the toes.

The podiatrist will use a scalpel to remove all plantar hyperkeratosis (calluses, dead skin, and/or cracks), corns, and calluses so that the surface of the foot is perfectly smooth and pain-free.

The treatment will also allow the podiatrist to check the condition of your feet and look for moles (nevi), and to give you the best advice on moisturizing and preventing foot problems.

For athletes, having strong, well-prepared feet can prevent blisters (or phlyctenes), which can be very debilitating when exercising!

The podiatrist will also carefully treat the nail: filing the surface layer of the nail (often damaged and discolored by friction) and clearing the grooves (edge of the nail). The aim is to prevent the appearance of fungal infections and periungual corns (accumulation of skin around the nail that can become painful), but also to improve the overall appearance.

The consultation can be for comfort and prevention, but also for the treatment of:

Hyperkeratosis, calluses, cracks, corns, corns: all roughness of the skin

Ingrown, broken, ridged, fungal, discolored nails: all nail conditions

It lasts at least 45 minutes, and you can come for a very specific consultation or for comprehensive care. Please note that the treatment is not painful and you can walk and carry out your daily activities as soon as the consultation is over.

    Wart treatment

Warts can be treated in different ways at the clinic depending on their type, size, and location.

This treatment can be carried out using:

    • Keratolytics
    • Iontophoresis (combined with the application of keratolytics)
    • Silver nitrate
    • Antifungal treatment often requires one or more sessions, the number of which will be assessed during the consultation and as improvement occurs. You will be given a protocol to follow at home in order to optimize the treatment.

    Iontophoresis (Treatment of excessive sweating)

Iontophoresis is a technique that uses an electric current to help ionic substances penetrate the skin or other biological membranes. This method is used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and plantar warts, which can affect athletic performance in particular.

The principle of iontophoresis is based on the fact that charged ions (positive or negative) can be moved by an electric field. By placing electrodes on the skin and applying a low voltage, the ions can be attracted to the skin and penetrate the underlying tissues. This inhibits (“deactivates”) the sweat glands (which produce sweat).

It is considered a non-invasive method and often requires several sessions.

    Coverage & reimbursement

Medical pedicure treatment: social security reimbursement is low (€0.63), but mutual insurance companies may reimburse you for one or more consultations per year.

Warts: full reimbursement for wart treatment sessions up to 4 sessions per year: (€19.97 per session)

Iontophoresis: treatment for excessive sweating is not covered by social security, except in the case of warts, as it is combined with a keratolytic treatment.

However, mutual insurance companies may reimburse you for one or more consultations per year.

The number and amount allocated by your mutual insurance company can be found in your contract, often in the “alternative medicine” or “paramedical consultation” section, along with osteopathy, chiropractic, dietetics, etc.
